Accessing county newspapers online
- 1. Google “portal to Texas history”
- 2. Click on search.
- 3. Click guided search.
- 4. In the top search bar type in the name or word you want to search.
- 5. For multiple words use the next line WITHOUT quotation marks.
- 6. Choose the date range.
- 7. From the drop down list of partners Select the collection you want:
- A. For Bastrop Advertiser – Bastrop Public Library
- B. Elgin Courier – Elgin Public Library
- C. Smithville Times. — Smithville Public Library
- 8. From the drop down list of collections – select the matching record.
- 9. Select from bottom list for sort result — “Date created “.
- 10. Select search.
- 11. Hits will result in individual newspapers – click on the text of the newspaper name and date.
- 12. This will show the pages with the contain the word.
- 13. Click one at a time and see the word highlighted in yellow. You can zoom to make the page larger.
- 14. When done, use the back arrow to return to the list of issues and continue.
